Chris Dooley

Deacon of Worship

TVC Responsibilities:
As a deacon in the Worship Ministry, I serve as an extension of our staff leadership by sharing the load of spiritual leadership, relational care, and administrative oversight. This can include helping screen new volunteers musically and spiritually, helping existing volunteers stay healthy spiritually, and encouraging and developing volunteers.

When and how did the Lord save you?
I was born into an amazing Christian family with two parents who both taught at Bible schools, preached around the world, and authored a book on the Holy Spirit. I’ve been in church and on mission trips my whole life. There was a point in young adulthood when I consciously decided to center my life around God’s Kingdom and not my own selfish goals and ambition. I had been dedicated and “sprinkled” as a baby, but at the age of 25 I followed Jesus’ example into the waters of baptism by immersion as a public declaration of my faith.

When did you come to TVC and what brought you here?
After 23 years heavily involved at our previous church, our family prayerfully and carefully made the decision to join TVC—primarily because we have a daughter with special needs who aged out of the previous church’s children’s ministry the very same summer that our good friend Juliana Wootten launched a Disability Care Ministry at TVC. My sister, Angie, is a long-time member (and former deacon!) at TVC, as well. We prayed, met with a variety of pastors and an elder, processed with close friends and family, did a lot of research into TVC’s doctrines and distinctives, and watched dozens of TVC services and other videos on the TVC YouTube Channel.

If you had to give a TED Talk, what subject would you choose to speak on, and why?
If it’s a faith-based TED Talk, it would definitely be on the need to increase discipleship and spiritual oversight for Worship volunteers. If it’s more on the professional side, it would be the combination of opportunities + dangers of Artificial Intelligence.

Which fictional character would you be friends with in real life, and why?
Bandit, the dad on the kids' cartoon Bluey. I watch a lot of Bluey with my daughter after she gets home from school, and Bandit is an AMAZING dad. We have a similar silly sense of humor, he honors and adores his wife, and he teaches his kids valuable life lessons. I think I enjoy Bluey more than my daughter.
