TVC Responsibilities:
I serve as an Elder, supervise the Executive team, and execute strategic priorities.
When and how did the Lord save you?
My parents faithfully served the church, and their example deeply formed my love for the church. As a result, faith and good activity were simply inseparable in my mind. Soon, I began to confuse doing good with my own worth. I worked hard to prove myself academically, athletically, and by always showing up at my best. While my activity may have appeared good by some worldly standard, my life was marked by hollow goodness. My faith was in my own doing, not in Jesus. This pattern continued until the Lord sent Kristen, a brilliant and beautiful medical student, into my life. She gave me a Bible and a one-year reading plan. The Word came alive as the Spirit awakened me to see His hand in the world and in my life. God opened my heart to hear the gospel, and I began to see that even the best of my work was worthless and that my salvation was proven through the perfect work of Jesus Christ.
When did you come to TVC and what brought you here?
In September of 2021, I received a phone call with a “wild idea” about moving to Texas to serve as a pastor at TVC. While humbled, I explained just how rooted my family was in Mississippi. But I called Kristen at lunch, and she said, “No shot, Nick.” However, she changed her tune at dinner that same night: “If God is in that, I wouldn’t want to miss it. I think you should call back.” One thing led to another, and we came to TVC for a visit at Halloween. We met members of the church, and our kids played with other kids. As we watched our children play, Kristen and I got a picture of what it could look like in the future. And our hearts started turning. The next morning, I met Elders who told me, through tears, of their deep love and affection for God’s people and their desire to present the church holy and blameless before a holy God. My heart turned some more. Later that morning, we experienced the “welcoming home” of The Village Church, and our hearts turned even more. On the drive back to Mississippi, Kristen and I were both silent for an hour. We knew that something special had just happened that would require much prayer and wise counsel. We kept discerning, and it became clear that the arrows of God’s call were pointing to Texas. And when the King calls, faithfulness requires your “yes” to the Lord before anyone or anything else. God has been faithful to meet us in our fears and help us experience more of His presence in the midst of them.
